After having received some generous feedback and critique on the previous version of this, I decided to go back into the PSD trenches, wielding my trusty wacom, to rework this beast.
Anyways, this piece started as a tribute piece for Frank Frazetta, who just turned 80(!!!!) on February 9th. The man is the grandaddy of Fantasy art, an icon, and a huge inspiration.
I started working on this piece at the beginning of January, with a notion of doing it as a tribute piece for Frank Frazetta & his iconic character, the Deathdealer. Then, when I found out about the IFX Frazetta tribute feature (nice coincidence I thought!), I was intent on submitting it. However when it came down to it, I felt the image just wasn't complete enough, so I kept running with it to see it through to the finish... unfortunately not finishing it time for the feature.
BUT, I did manage to complete it in time for Mr. Frazetta's birthday (aside from this rework).
Even though I did not get to finish it in time for the magazine feature, I'm pretty pleased with how this has turned out, I further tweaked and polished it after
Thanks for having a look! Please tell me your thoughts and impressions, I appreciate it!
I know the Death Dealer paintings of Frazetta, I know the Verotik and the Image comics, but I think this first time I see the Death Dealer JUMPING! Cool work, man.
I just hope I can get to hand deliver it to Fraz sometime soon!!!
I appreciate the response!
